Syracuse is the Heart of New York

Syracuse is the Heart of New York. Its central location gives this extremely diverse community opportunities bounded only by imagination.

From its core of high-tech employment opportunities to its world-class colleges and universities, Syracuse hums with the activities of those eager to get on with their lives.

The Syracuse Metro area heads into the 21st century defining itself as a knowledge-based economy. Industry by industry, technology-based companies are reaching out to the professionals who can make their businesses soar.

Syracuse’s geography makes it easy to get to and a pleasure to stay in. Did someone say, “golf?” Syracuse offers more than 100 golf courses in the immediate environs. How about fun in the sun? Too many lakes to count provide sailing, boating, water skiing, swimming, kayaking, windsurfing, and sun bathing in warm weather months. Ethnic and music festivals are a blast all summer long. Hike and ski the Adirondack Mountains. Go cross country skiing by a lake, in a forest, or out in the wilderness. Cultural events including theater, symphony, and opera, as well as every sporting event imaginable, are year long activities. Scoot over to the Finger Lakes for a sip of great New York wine. Take your boat, and float the Erie Canal. And then, there’s Lake Ontario, our Great Lake.

The city is within 350 miles of every major metropolitan area in the Northeast, making New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Toronto, Quebec and Montreal all just a few hours drive away.

Want to shop until you drop? Whether at great malls with national stores and chains, or regional outlet malls, or intimate boutiques, you will. Events and attractions span multi-cultural activities and nationally acclaimed sporting events to first-class shopping and year-round recreational opportunities.

Hancock International Airport, just 10 minutes from downtown, is served by eight major airlines plus regional carriers, charter, rental and leasing services. Amtrak Rail and several mass transit systems also serve the area.

Syracuse University, LeMoyne College, New York State Environmental Sciences and Forestry College, the SUNY Health Science Center, and Onondaga Community College are all located within Onondaga County. These institutions of higher learning have a combined student population in excess of 32,000. Professional and non-professional employees in these institutions number over 7,200.
