Background
Currently, businesses across the country are experiencing shortages of both experienced and new engineers and technical professionals. This has been a major concern for the many Central and Upstate New York businesses that are forced to compete for the same limited human resources.
In 1997, in response to these issues, a consortium was formed by Syracuse area companies encountering difficulty in recruiting talented engineers, technical professionals and other qualified career seekers. We dubbed this initiative "The daVinci Project of Upstate New York" in honor of Leonardo da Vinci: artist, architect, thinker and engineer. daVinci is now a leading a collaborative effort to recruit electrical, mechanical, computer, civil, environmental and MIS engineering personnel, as well as marketing, sales, education, management and other professionals for businesses in Central and Upstate New York. Over 2,000 job vacancies in these professional fields already exist within the region.

Strategy and Implementation
The consortium's recruitment needs are addressed using a combination of Internet technology, creative interactive marketing, and traditional advertising. The daVinci Project takes advantage of the high usage of the World Wide Web by job seekers and career-minded engineering and technical talent all over the nation. By using non-traditional marketing methods and interactive media, the daVinci Project provides a high-tech solution to fill the consortium's stringent personnel requirements.
The focal point of The daVinci Project is the davincijobs.com website. This site carries the spirit of Leonardo daVinci to today's engineers and other technical and professional talent, and it draws them to Upstate New York, where they can do their best work, enjoy a creative, satisfying life, and make a significant contribution to the world.
Our primary target audiences for the daVinci Project are professionals in all major fields from around the world who are presently earning between $40,000 and $80,000, have 5 to 10 years experience, and who are seeking challenging work opportunities.
Visitors to The daVinci Project Web site are exposed not only to the rich employment opportunities in Central and Upstate New York, but also the plethora of enjoyablelifestyle opportunities in our region. Those with interest in employment opportunities in the area are offered a full spectrum of value-added Web features to investigate these opportunities, including a job matching service as well as job database search capabilities. In conjunction with career opportunity information, the site provides users with customized information regarding the features and attractions of the region that appeal to their own unique lifestyle preferences.

Project Support
Funding for the daVinci Project of Upstate New York comes from membership fees paid by local companies and academic institutions and contributory support from local economic development agencies, the City of Syracuse, the County of Onondaga, and the State of New York.
Revised daVinci Pricing Structure
daVinci membership dues are now based on the number of employees in the member’s organization:

| 20-49 | $1,000 |
| 50-99 | $1,500 |
| 100-499 | $2,500 |
| 500+ | $3,500 |
If an organization elects to have its jobs automatically posted on the daVinci website whenever they are posted on the employers’ site (known as “job wrapping”), there is a one-time $1,200 startup fee. If any technical changes are made to the employers’ site that result in a necessary alteration of the daVinci job wrapping program, daVinci will require an additional fee ($1,200 or less) to cover this expense.
All members receive the following benefits:
- Ability to post an unlimited number of job openings to the online database for no additional charge
- Members who choose to have their jobs wrapped automatically also benefit from automatic posting to America’s Job Bank (AJB)
- Opportunity to network with other regional employers to address such issues as: partner placement, HR specific topics, organizational issues, training programs, and more
- Member company profile on the website
- Access to 7,000+ resumes on a newly improved, user-friendly, faster resume database that ranks results
- Rotating "Featured Employer" banner on homepage to promote your organization to potential job seekers
- Can attend all daVinci general meetings and sponsored seminars
- Opportunity to participate on any daVinci committee such as Education & Outreach, Marketing, Technology, and/or the User Advisory Board. As a member of the User Advisory Board, you will also receive voting rights for daVinci policy and decision making processes (setting dues for the year, etc.).

Companies who do not wish to become members will be allowed to post individual jobs and pay for each job by credit card at a cost of just $150 per 60-day job posting.
